Most of these recipes are given using the "gud ol fashioned" imperial measurements, why? Well, they were written/created by generations since departed. These great "classic" cooks created these recipes using imperial measurements, we "modern" cooks have changed them to metric, but only roughly and so the end result can never be the same (hence I guess "Grandma makes the best...")

I should add though, that the recipes do not stick to one measurement, the old classic recipes that have come from old family recipes are in imperial units.  The newer ones that were first introduced to this household in recent years are metric and the above advice applies, don't bother converting them!
