The woes of a perfectionist

So, it has been mentioned before that I am a bit of a perfectionist by some (though no doubt others will find this shocking and disagree completely) Today, I wanted to achieve so much more with the site, but failed miserably.

What I wanted to do was to have the bottom footer always appear at the very bottom of any browser window should the content not be enough for it to get "pushed" down there. Sadly though the lack of skill I posses with JavaScript and CSS meant this seemingly simple task was not completed. Add that to the rather foul mood I woke up in and today was not a good day.

So the site got sensibly put to the side for a while, and the Christmas Decorations went up instead. Yeah I know its not December but like I can be bothered to do it in the few hours I get to spend with Emily when I get back from work tomorrow (and Ruth is out till 8ish, with her parents apparently visiting at 7) so it wasn't going to happen then was it. And like all things if they get put off once then they never get done (the gate, patio and shelves are more than testament to that statement)

Again, the foul mood did not help, but eventually after dinner I managed to get the required bits out of the attic and start to assemble the tree. Ruth did the actual decorating whilst I found other things to do, like fit the telephone socket back to the wall, tidy up where the xbox is (and play a bit of Guitar Hero in the process) and tidy up the master guest bedroom. I say "master guest bedroom" its the ONLY guest bedroom unless you want to share with Ruth and I or Emily.

I'll probably get the guys at work to tell me in 30 seconds how to do what I wanted to do - my only stipulation is it can't be a "hack" and must work in all browsers. Its not because I like one particular brand - I tend to stick to IE but only because I am a tad lazy, its already installed, and installing something else just seems bizarre - but because I want the site to look exactly how I created it, unless of course you are using a text browser or something like that.

Right, enough blogging for now, baths to be had and Top Gear to be watched then another attempt at sleep before starting a fresh week and month on a positive note.

Oh, added Google Analytics to the site for no other reason other than because I can!

Till whenever

Blog by email

Hmmm apparently I can do this whole blogging thing just by emailing my blog! How amazingly simple!

Right, I REALLY must go to bed now!

New Site, New Blog

So I figured what with having redesigned the site, I should also add some functionality to it too - and here be part of that. Yes this twentysomething IT graduate is finally getting with the times and starting his own blog, why? Well mainly because its one of the easiest ways of updating the content on www.captin.co.uk without having to open my web editor or get the Web Team at work to link my site into iEditor.

Quite happy with the overall look of the site, but thats the easiest thing to change. Having massive trouble with the photo gallery section though - hence why it's still in progress and doesn't look right. Ruth walked past me on her way to bed this evening and asked how I was getting on only to get a short answer as I was getting really fed up with not being able to have the layout exactly how I wanted it (sorry darling, didn't mean to be a grouch!)

The layout will get fixed, though not by me learning anything new, but by either mass trial and error or by getting one of the "Web Team" to point out my simple CSS errors and no doubt wonder to themselves whether I lied about my CS degree or not (some times it feels as though I learnt nothing useful at all)

Well I could probably write all night, but I still have to sort out the blogger template so that this looks nice and tidy and I'll be in trouble (and a grouch tomorrow) if I stay up all night working away at my site.

So until the next post...
